Key Features
- Woodpeckers Step Gauges streamline the process of setting tooling positions in your workshop. Step Gauge RTS sets the height of router bits and saw blades. Step Gauge DP measures the distance between a drill bit and the drill press table. In both cases you're not trying to eyeball the alignment of the tool to a tiny line on a scale. Instead, you're making contact between the tool edge and a precisely machined physical "step"...no parallax error, no getting the wrong line…it touches or it doesn't. To make it even easier, we make two separate gauges for each style, one reads every 16th of an inch and the other reads in 32nds. What's more, the gauges stand on their own, so you have both hands free to make adjustments.
- Using Step Gauge RTS couldn't be simpler. Just drop the gauge with the graduations you need onto its leg set, position the dimension you want over the router bit or saw blade and adjust to contact. Here's a hint. Go just a little too high, raising the foot of the gauge off the table, then sneak back down until the foot kisses the table…now you're spot-on.
- Step Gauge DP is just as easy…maybe easier because it only needs one leg. Just position the scale so your desired dimension is under the bit, drop the quill until the bit contacts the gauge and lock your depth stop. Now every hole you drill will stop at the same spot.
- The Step Gauges are laser cut from 3/32" thick stainless steel. You never have to worry about humidity attacking your tool. We use a proprietary multi-step finishing process to create a smooth non-glare satin finish that contrasts perfectly with the laser-engraved graduations. Both sides are engraved so you don't have to worry about which side you're using.
